The Republic of Slovenia declared independence in 1991 and issued coins and banknotes in Tolars. Provisional banknotes were first issued and these were replaced in 1992 by the Tolar notes. The Euro was adopted in 2007 at a rate of 1 Euro = 239.64 Tolars. Both types of banknote are now obsolete but can still be exchanged.
